Spend less time in your car and more time enjoying life. There are 90,000 residents in Miami Beach during the off season but when the snowbirds and other tourists arrive, the population can triple. These fluctuations increase traffic in urbanized corridors and present the perfect opportunity to explore the alternative transportation options Miami Beach has to offer, including trollies, the Atlantic Greenway Network, green bicycle lanes and ride sharing. Miami Beach is the sixth healthiest city in the world. This is owing to the Magic City’s parks, green space, healthy food options, exercise options, average hours of sunlight, walkability and amenities. With so much freedom to be outdoors, the city is also ranked the third most fun city in America. The soon-to-be-completed Miami Beach Beachwalk will span eight oceanside miles, which will delight the many North Beach, Mid Beach and South Beach residents who ride their bikes to work – the best type of commute possible! If walking is more your speed, the City of Miami Beach is also focusing on creating wide, well-maintained sidewalks for the safety and comfort of residents and visitors. Trolley

Miami Beach offers a citywide trolley system that offers free Wi-Fi, ample interior floor space, ambassador-style customer service, security cameras and wheelchair ramps and lifts at zero cost to riders/passengers. Keep track of real-time bus information on the City of Miami Beach e-Gov app. The trolley system runs alongside the existing transit network with connections to regional transit routes. Residents and visitors can get around easily with this improved mobility. There are several loops that make getting around the neighborhoods easy and fun. Choose between reliable North Beach, Mid Beach and South Beach Loops. All three neighborhoods and loops connect at the Collins Express that runs from 87th Street South to Lincoln Road.

Atlantic Greenway Network

Given the popularity of Miami Beach, the Atlantic Greenway Network was created to combine the city’s bicycle, pedestrian and greenway facilities. The AGN is part of 3,000 miles of the larger East Coast Greenway Network, the nation’s longest connected bicycle and walking route, which reaches from Key West, Florida, to Madawaska, Maine. The goal of AGN is to provide a safe and seamless multi-modal connectivity for Miami Beach residents and visitors, including the Beachwalk that runs parallel to the dune system for eight miles. Enjoy blue skies as you ride your bike on one of the green bicycle lanes.

Green bicycle lanes

Miami Beach’s Transportation Department has implemented green bicycle lanes as part of a growing bicycle network, including 31,000 linear feet for bike lanes on both sides of the road. North Beach and surrounding areas have initiated six neighborhood greenway studies. This entails giving bicycle and pedestrian travel priority over cars through lower speed limits and green bicycle lanes. North Beach Elementary students can use the Safe Routes to begin their day with exercise and fun.

Ride sharing

If the weather outside does not permit a sunny stroll or bike ride, consider using Uber or Lyft. County busses are another option to travel longer distances within the city. Visitors and residents can use the bus to get to the Tri-Rail via 71st Street, Miami International Airport via 41st and the Downtown/Brickell Metromover via 5th Street.
