Eighty Seven Park Rendering ocean day logoNew luxury developments have been sprouting up all over North Beach, and it’s only natural, it’s an attractive area located right on Collins Ave. close to the Bal Harbour Shops and Aventura, just a stone’s throw from South Beach: prime real estate. In fact, Eighty Seven Park will likely be the project that puts undervalued North Beach on the map. It was brilliantly designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano to look and feel completely integrated with the neighboring 36-acre North Shore Open Space Park and be a perfect picturesque gateway to the Atlantic Ocean. “What he created here was something that I think is going to be a landmark, and really give a lot of dignity and pride to the community,” said David Martin, president and COO of the Terra Group, the project’s Miami based developers.Eighty Seven Park Rendering park view 2The 20 story building will be a glass and steel work of art. It might be south Florida’s answer to Manhattan’s prestigious Central Park area residences, but this building will be far more modern in design and contemporary in amenities offered. Eighty Seven Park will rise out of the trees looking translucent. “The language of lightness, the sense of lack of gravity in some way,” said Piano trying to describe his design vision.

Floor to ceiling windows will make outdoor living seem woven right into the fabric of the rooms. Apartments will include a great deal of terrace living space and extensive exterior facilities, for example some of the 70 units will have summer kitchens and outdoor dining rooms.

Eighty Seven Park Rendering living roomIn 2015 Terra gave the City of Miami Beach $10.5 million to redesign and improve beautiful North Shore Park which lies just to the south of Eighty Seven Park. The city will spend $6.5 million of this money on improving the public space. Plans call for a new 4,000 square foot building, attractive pedestrian beach access, new walkways, landscaping and modern lighting. West 8, a Dutch urban design and landscape firm will be in charge of the park’s redevelopment. The remaining $4 million of the Terra payment will be used for infrastructure improvements in the ever growing and thriving NoBe neighborhood.Read also: North Shore Open Space Park Redesign by West 8There will be a private two-acre park just for Eighty Seven Park owners, also designed by West 8 and encompassing the north side of the project, it will have a look inspired by Japanese imperial gardens.Eighty Seven Park Rendering garden viewThe lobby clearly displays the designer’s philosophy of creating a space that is a natural extension of the green surroundings. Glass-enclosed, almost 20 ft in height and flooded with the Miami sun, the lobby will have an indoor botanical garden with 14-15 ft high plants. “We are talking about invading the lobby by a small forest,” said Antoine Chaaya, a longtime partner in the Renzo Piano Building Workshop based in Europe.

The lobby will also have natural looking decorative reflecting pools and if you want to smell the real sea air, the ocean is a short walk away.

He also helped design the new Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and is working on a condo tower in that city’s SoHo district. This will be his first project in the Miami area.Terra recently finished a beautiful building project called Glass in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood at 120 Ocean Drive. Also a luxury condominium."We built the last tower in South of Fifth," Martin told the Miami Herald. "Now we're building the first one in North Beach." Eighty Seven Park will soon be rising; the building is scheduled to open in 2018.
