You’ve seen it. Towering amongst the swaying palms and boasting its proud history, the Normandy Fountain has been a landmark for almost 90 years and is now undergoing some serious repairs. The Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel of North Beach and the City of Miami Beach are orchestrating the restoration of the fountain. The scope of work includes:

• Repairing the interior plumbing and electricity
• Restoring the concrete
• Sourcing the original tile to replace missing or damaged tiles
• Adding lighting to the fountain and surrounding walkways

Residents are delighted to see the Normandy Fountain getting some much needed TLC. Built in 1925 by Henri Levy, the Normandy Fountain was one of the first structures built on Normandy Isle.

The last revamp of the entire fountain and surrounding area happened in late December of 1996 in Phase II of the North Shore Streetscape Project (see page 2) in efforts to revitalize the North Beach community.

The Blue Ribbon Panel also expressed the desire to make use of the surrounding area by putting in tables and chairs for the public use. Wouldn’t it be great to expand the sidewalk from the retail strip just west of the fountain to allow for outdoor seating at the cafes and restaurants? What are your thoughts?
