As dusk began to fall in the early evening of October 14th, residents and city officials alike started filing in to huddle around the newly restored Normandy Fountain. Anticipation was thick in the air as City Manager, Jimmy Morales stepped onto the podium to give a brief history of the fountain and thank all those responsible for the implementation and completion of this wonderful project.Shortly thereafter, Mayor Philip Levine joined Jimmy on stage. He started off by thanking everyone, including the community for showing their support, and sent a special thanks to the local historian in the crowd. Mayor Philip Levine chucked up a few laughs when he questioned the local historian's claim that the fountain had been working between the years of '75-'79 but nonetheless he was glad he could inaugurate the fully functioning fountain once again.Alongside the Mayor stood North Beach's Blue Ribbon Panel Chairman Ricky Arriola, Blue Ribbon Panel Member Margueritte Ramos, and Commissioners Michael Grieco, Micky Steinberg, and Ed Tobin. As they geared up to flip the switch and activate the fountain, the Mayor exclaimed that this fountain would signify the Miami Beach administration's support for the rebirth and revitalization of North Beach.After decades of being out of commission, they all placed their hands on the switch and with a swift but subtle push, the fountain began to pour water from the lower basin. The crowd began to applaud and cameras began to click and flash as the glistening water streamed down. We spoke with Miami Beach Police Major Mark Causey (congratulations on the promotion Major!) to inquire what the department had planned to keep the fountain area safe for all residents.  Major Causey affirmed that the fountain will be continuously patrolled by Miami Beach law enforcement at every shift to ensure the area stays clean and family friendly.We're looking forward to spending time here, eating our lunches, and brainstorming about other improvements that can be done in our area.
